About Us

About Us
Pediatric Therapeutics was born in 1994 in the Intensive Care Unit of the National Children's Hospital in San José, Costa Rica, when the first edition was published, at a time when smartphones did not exist and computing, in general, was on its first steps. The field of Pediatrics represents a challenge for both general practitioners and pediatricians due to the diversity of weights and sizes of children across different ages.
Applying the experience obtained from leader Hospitals around the world such as The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, and the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada, we decided to publish a basic list of medications with their corresponding doses according to weight and frequency. The first edition became one more weapon in the daily management of sick children, emphasizing portability, and ease of use. Over time and thanks to the help and suggestions of both specialists, and residents in training, the approval of new drugs, frequently used formulas, laboratory tests, and treatment of the most frequent pathologies that require quick information were incorporated. Computing, internet, and newer dedicated sites about drugs to make new information available and at a click distance. Mobile computing and smartphones also became available, as did the need to develop apps to make this information available at all times. Proudly, Pediatric Therapeutics celebrates 26 years of existence. The NEW ninth Edition 2020 has been developed over two years to be up to the challenge of the 21st century. This edition is presented as an app and is one of the very few in the market specially designed for the pediatric practice. The app is available for iOS and Android systems, in both English and Spanish with a database of more than 1,000 drugs, which are critically and exhaustively reviewed with every edition. We are also very proud of the fact that the App provides the user with live updates, so as soon as a new drug is approved or taken of the market and new age recommendations are issued, and it will be included in the database and will appear in the App immediately. Our app also includes many of the most frequent topics used by doctors in the acute setting with the current recommendations, such as diabetic ketoacidosis, seizures, liquids and electrolytes among others. Neonatology was also included as a main topic. We hope you like Pediatric Therapeutics, and please do not hesitate to contact us if you want changes, or new topics to be included.
